The Border Collie came from the border between Scotland and England and had been referred to as the “Scotch Sheep Dog”. As a workaholic breed, it is happiest when there is a job to complete, and often times that means much more than a simple walk around the block. They are a herding breed with high intelligence and extreme patience with the ones being herded; giving them the “eye” to make sure their directions are followed. Border Collies are season shedders and their thick coat will require regular brushing. The coat can be rough or smooth and can be any color including bi-color, tri-color, merle, sable or solid coloring. Proper height ranges from 18 to 22 inches tall at the withers. The AKC recognized this breed in the Herding Group in 1995.
